Don't Wake Me Up

fomm_ Beautiful and heart wrenching introduction to Phil's sound. Quickly refining his DIY noise pop, this album is just as essential as The Glow Pt. 2 and anything else he's made, both as the Microphones and Mount Eerie.

alec critten While the Microphones' debut is overshadowed by the landmark albums that would follow, it's clear that Phil Elverum's vision of expansive lo-fi rock was fully-formed from the start. Standouts like "Here with Summer", "Ocean 1, 2, 3", and "I Felt You" split the difference between lo-fi grit and sonically rich soundscapes. An underrated gem of an album. Favorite track: Here With Summer.

steverie I've been a fan of Phil's music for years, but somehow Don't Wake Me Up slipped right by me. The Glow Pt. 2 and Mount Eerie are two of my all-time favorite albums, but this record (and It Was Hot, We Stayed In the Water) deserve more recognition than they get, in my opinion. Phil was already showing enormous promise on these songs; some of what you'll hear on this includes: acoustic ballads, fuzzed-out garage/indie/noise rock, droning keyboards & organs, experimental soundscapes, guest vocalists, and much more. Sure it sounds "lo-fi" and rough around the edges, but that's a huge part of this album's charm and musicality. If you enjoy this record or any of Phil's other records, please go to pwelverumandsun.com and purchase vinyl copies of his music. He puts together great packaging for his records (especially the Microphones reissues), and he deserves all of the financial support he can get.

michelle_starlight I love this album for showing us properly how Phil Elverum crafts an atmosphere and a mood with a dreamy but eerie fantasy dream world that takes all your heart troubles away just for a bit. Don't wake me up. Favorite track: I'll Be In The Air.
